Mrs. Roberts' Rats Rule
JUNE HIGHLIGHTS ROOM 208
June 12 CA Walk Through 8:30-11
June 15 Gold Rush Day all day
June 23 Last Day of school picnic
at La Costa Canyon Park
Welcome to my fourth grade classroom website! This will be my 23rd year of teaching and my 14th year at ECC. I have taught 4th grade for 19 years. It's, by far, the best grade, in my opinion! I love making learning fun and engaging for my students.
I've always had class pets that are rats. This class gets to start with 2 new baby girls that I'm picking up this Sunday! You will be able to take them home over long weekends and holidays, which helps me out a great deal as I have a cat at home who loves to eat rats! So you are going to be a Roberts' rat this year!
WELCOME BACK LETTER
AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Dear New Fourth Grader and Family, August 2016
Welcome to fourth grade! My name is Mrs. Roberts, and I will be your teacher. I wanted to say hello to all of you and to inform you of a few things.
These are some school supplies that I would love for you to have this year. I am hoping that all will come on the first day of school with a writer's journal. These are notebooks roughly 8 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches. We will be using them as our Writer's Notebooks, and we will begin right off the bat on Monday with an entry. These can be found at many stores: Target, Barnes and Noble, Office Depot, Walmart, etc. Please let me know if you would like to me supply any of the items for your child.
School Supplies
backpack with name on it
3 spiral notebooks (70-100 pages)
1 composition book (they are usually a mottled black color but any color is fine)
1 pair of scissors
2 red correcting pens (not markers)
1 bottle of glue and a pack of glue sticks
2 black Sharpie markers (we use these often!)
1 box of pencils #2 pencils
1-2 large erasers (for when the pencil eraser is gone!)
1 highlighter (any color)
6 two-pocket plastic folders in different colors (for homework and organizing school work) These are in lieu of a 3 ring binder. Pl;ease DO NOT send a binder to school
1-2 boxes of Kleenex (these go quickly as we sneeze and blow our way through the year!)
1 large can of wipes (Clorox or store brand, but not Seventh Generation...they smell awful!)
1 writer's journal (mentioned above)
We then use a special binder for our poetry books. I found the perfect sized binder at Office Depot. It is the 3/8" Poly Round-Ring Binder. (Wilson Jones® CleanView™ Poly Round-Ring Binder, 3/8" Rings) It comes in a clear, a white, and a navy color. The kids will need these by Friday, August 26th.
Markers, crayons, colored pencils are also needed. Desk space is very limited after all the books, folders, and other supplies are in the desks. I have purchased small baskets for the kids to store the smaller supplies in. Please DO NOT bring any large items to school such as a 3 ring binder, large pencil sharpeners, or any pencil boxes. They will not fit in the desks, and they end up on the floor. It also helps to put your child's name on most things that aren't consumable, like scissors. I prefer that kids NOT bring mechanical pencils to school unless it's been determined that it will be helpful for the child to use a special pencil.
I look forward to seeing all the parents at Back to School Night, and at that time, I will give the parents an overview of the curriculum and discuss our classroom schedule, rules, and my expectations for the students.
We are going to have an awesome year! See you Monday at 8:00!
